It all started a few months ago, when we were sitting in the office, brainstorming the next new feature for Triond. We were browsing through some Triond users’ profiles when Udi said something like: “You know, we’re sitting here, reading our users articles, looking at their profile pics, but we can’t really get the feeling of them. We can’t hear them, we can’t see how they really look. I wish I could have just clicked on their profile pic and then a video of them would start playing. I bet our users would like that, too.”
It didn’t take more than a few fractions of a second before we all knew what feature we wanted to introduce next: profile pics that turn into videos!
Then we realized this idea could work much more broadly, beyond the boundaries of Triond. People have profile pics all over the web — on social networks, bookmarking sites, blogs, news sites, just name it. Usually, wherever you have a username, you also have a profile pic. So why not let all those users on all those sites turn their profile pics into videos? So we gave this project a name of its own — Vanityvid — and started developing it.
And today we are bringing Vanityvid to all Triond users.
So what is it that you’re actually getting? When you log into Triond, you will now see a ‘REC’ button on your profile pics that are either on your Profile page or on your Account page. Click that button and the Vanityvid Recorder will open up, giving you a choice of either uploading a file or using your webcam in order to create your Vanityvid. Vanityvids are limited to 17 seconds, so if you upload a longer file you will be asked to trim it.
Any Vanityvid you create will be automatically associated with your Triond account. This means that when your Triond friends see your image, they will also see a ‘Play’ button on it, and will be able to click ‘Play’ and watch… you!
That’s about it. Pretty simple, right?
Oh, and we almost forgot. Now, you can see US in video, as well!
